Unveiling the Power of Pilates: Experience the smart exercise with the STV!

Fitness trends may come and go, but undeniably, Pilates is here to stay. Surging in popularity during early 2020, Pilates began to gather a cult following despite being developed 100 years earlier. The low-impact exercise is seemingly perfect for everyone, taking inspiration from a large variety of practices, such as yoga and tai chi. The routines are highly adaptable and accessible for a wide range of abilities.

Naturally, it was time to see what all the fuss was about. There are several Pilates classes throughout the week at the STV. Ranging from 30 to 45 minutes, there are classes suitable for everyone; some are even done online over Zoom. The in-person class takes place in a large exercise studio full of natural light and a wall of mirrors. A welcoming and friendly atmosphere instantly sets your nerves at ease. The Pilates instructors are helpful and happy to discuss any concerns or questions and how the routine can be adapted for you. Then it’s just grabbing a mat and exercise ring and finding a space.

As the class begins, you are encouraged to take a moment to relax and centre yourself. The instructors guide the class through gentle movements and poses that strengthen muscles throughout the body. Clear and detailed instructions provide clever cues to help you gain the most control over your body. The instructors also demonstrate the exercises at the front of the class. Pilates is known as the smart exercise due to its low impact and limited movement, yielding such high results. While your muscles may burn, you can choose your own difficulty, as movement control is the highest priority. The focus on breath and movement also makes the class great for mindfulness practice.

At the end of the session, you feel rewarded and relaxed. Each class allows you to improve and learn new exercises. Why not give it a go at the STV today?

A Team Bath Gym membership offers unlimited access to group exercise classes (there are over 60 of them!) and classes can also be accessed on a pay-as-you-go basis. For more info on memberships and classes, check out: www.teambath.com/about/prices-bookings/fitness-classes/
