How to love Valentines Day as a single girl?

As February comes rolling round after we shake off the excitement of the New Year, so too does Valentines Day. Before you’ve even put the Christmas decorations away, it can feel like the world is already turning to a rose-tinted, heart shaped chocolate and red rose filled oasis, or rather, nightmare. However, this article is not going to be about all the negatives of Valentines Day, instead, it will be focused on how to LOVE Valentine’s Day with all the important people in your life, from your family, friends or even your dog, regardless of whether you have a significant other or not.

The best thing about being single on Valentine’s Day is being able to celebrate Galentine’s Day with your favourite people. This year, my single girl friends and I are going to host a board night, get drunk, then head to Fishies in Bridge. Tonight is the night to be with your friends and scream “Let’s go girls…” with Shania Twain. What I love more and more about Valentine’s Day is how platonic love is also encouraged to be celebrated. In today’s world where technology makes it easy to hide and retreat from society it is important to put yourself out there and spend time with people who make you happy. Friendships are an essential part of life, and we shouldn’t neglect them or take them for granted.

Another favourite thing about Valentine’s Day is all the outfit drops by your favourite clothing stores. The Valentine’s Day shop drops are the absolute best, because let’s be real, who doesn’t look good in red? Just because you have no fancy date planned that night, it doesn’t mean you won’t have a reason to wear that sexy red dress at some point in your life. I love all the clothing collaborations, like the Lana X Skims drop, so save the money you would be spending on the date to buy yourself something nice. Honestly, being single on Valentines can be girl mathed into a couple of wardrobe additions. Something that will probably bring you much more joy than a boy and will definitely last longer than one.

Don’t forget that the day after Valentine’s Day is the best day too for you to go out and buy all the 50% off chocolates and roses that your heart desires because you deserve it. You would have survived yet another single Valentine’s Day so feel free to now go crazy on the chocolates and have your room littered with flowers. Buy them for your friends, buy them for your family. Go crazy in those Valentine’s Day sales.

It’s important that as the day gets closer and closer to February 14th to remember that all sorts of love deserve to be celebrated. Just because you are single, it does not mean your life is without love. So, in the words of Dolly Alderton in Everything I know About Love “Nearly everything I know about love, I’ve learnt from my long-term friendships with women.” This year remember that Valentine’s Day helps unite us with the people we love, so don’t let the day be wasted away wanting something you forgot you already have.
