The Mellow Moon Tour – Alfie Templeman in Bristol

The Mellow Moon Tour arrives in Bristol …

Last Wednesday URB were fortunate enough to attend Alfie Templeman’s headline tour at Bristol’s SWX. In spite of his ripe young age of 19, Alfie released his debut album earlier this year following the rapid success of his previous EP’s and the 2019 hit mini-album ‘Don’t Go Wasting Time’. The ‘Mellow Moon Tour’ was supported by up-and-comer Peri Rae and my own personal favourites, L’objectif.

Peri Rae is a new comer to the music scene and whilst this inexperience did come through in their performance, it made for no less of an enjoyable set. With a strong voice and a stunning white dress Peri piqued the interest of the crowd as they filed into the busy venue. During their set, Peri exclaimed how she fancied the stunning Sam Fender, resonating with an audience of predominantly young girls, before proceeding to perform an enthusiastic cover of ‘Hypersonic Missiles’. Singing relatable songs of loving and heartbreak, she got the crowd set for what was the follow.

Next up was 4-piece L’objectif (comprised of members even younger than Alfie!) playing songs from their new EP ‘We Aren’t Getting Out But Tonight We Might’. From the outset their youthful passion for performing was evident, creating a thoroughly high energy set. Throughout the show the crowd were singing and clapping along and were even treated to a preview of a new, unreleased song entitled ‘Con Man’, in reward for their keen participation. In a unusual turn of events, L’objectif revealed Alfie Templeman himself on stage to join them to play guitar on their most popular song, ‘Drive in Mind’. This was a particular highlight of the night for myself and the crowd alike.

Now to the main event! Emerging once more on stage to a rowdy crowd of loud cheers, Alfie strapped on his guitar raring to give a stellar show. Opening with some less popular songs at first, it wasn’t until ‘Obvious Guy’ that the crowd got fully moving and grooving. With the perfect mix of old and new songs throughout his set, Alfie’s humility and talent made his performance one to remember. Finishing on ‘Happiness in Liquid Form’ formed the perfect finale to a compelling show.
