STV enters its first phase of reopening schedule

An announcement on the Team Bath website on 31st July detailed plans that the first phase of the Sports Training Village reopening would begin on the 3rd August. The STV has not been open since it closed its doors on 20th March as the COVID-19 lockdown started ramping up.

In this first phase, members of the STV will be able to access the Team Bath Gym from 8am on August 3rd and the swimming pool from August 5th. Classes will also resume outdoors on August 4th with a roll-out of indoor classes beginning on August 10th

Members can book a 60-minute time slot up to 24 hours in advance to either swim or access the gym through the online booking system. Initially, access to changing rooms and lockers will only be available to those swimming as gym-goers are encouraged to come “ready to exercise” and leave promptly after finishing their sessions.

Team Bath have also released a video accompanying the press release with all the safety measures they are implementing in line with advice from the UK Government and UK Active. Social distancing measures, one-way systems and individual training zones have been put in place throughout the STV, like other gyms that have opened their doors since the government gave them the green light.

Elite athletes have been training with their National Governing Bodies at the STV for the past few weeks, which the Director of Sport, Stephen Baddeley, said “allowed us to test and refine our one-way systems, cleaning regimes, signage and social-distancing measures ahead of this first phase of public reopening” in the press release.

Upon reopening, SU Sport Officer Tom Sawko said “It’s great to see the STV opening up their gym and pool once again. This has been the culmination of a lot of hard work from Team Bath to ensure safety is at the heart of the reopening. It’s great to see physical activity in these spaces gradually return, and the levels of precision in planning from the Sports department. Thanks to all the staff involved in what has been a huge operation, your work is really appreciated!”
