Best Bars for Inexpensive Cocktails

It’s no secret that nightlife is an important aspect of the University experience. Whether it be Score or Komedia, Moles or Zero Zero, it’s great to be able to let our hair down and shake off some of the stresses that university can load onto our shoulders. If you’re looking for a fun night out without dancing in a sweaty club (post-COVID, this may not be everyone’s first choice), scouting out a bar with a lively atmosphere and delicious drinks is a great alternative.  You can avoid standing too near to other human beings,  as well as the tricky  conundrum of dancing when you’re in what seems like an underground cave (Zero Zero, I’m looking at you).

Now, going for drinks in a bar can sometimes be associated with a pricier way to spend an evening, however, in Bath, there’s a plethora of fun bars whose drinks won’t cost you the earth. Here’s a checklist for you to tick off and enjoy:

  1. Slug & Lettuce

Now, even though S&L is a chain that isn’t unique to Bath, there’s no denying their 2-4-1 cocktails are an absolute steal. For £10.95, you can enjoy 2 Pornstar Martinis (with the prosecco shot on the side) that will last you a good amount of time. The dancefloor allows for some real partying to be done and the interiors are also rather aesthetic – the girls’ bathroom is straight out of Pinterest.

  1. Sub 13

Located right next door to Slug & Lettuce, Sub 13 offers a slightly more ‘chic’ experience with equally well-priced drinks and a decent 2-4-1 deal on certain cocktails. What’s fabulous about this bar is the outside area that is complete with heaters and comfortable seating where you can enjoy a good ol’ chinwag with your mates in the winter without freezing to your very core.

  1. Hall & Woodhouse

If you make the effort to climb those stairs with drinks in your hand, you can sit yourself up on the little rooftop of this pub and enjoy a dusk time cocktail. The drinks menu is reasonably priced and is complete with a traditional cocktail selection. A classic mojito will set you back £7.50 while a Kir Royale costs a humble £6.50, so your purse strings can breathe a little.

  1. Vino Vino

A menu consisting of ten £10 cocktails is enough for any cocktail lover to enjoy. Lo and behold, the menu includes a passionfruit martini so all of us basic people can be quite satisfied. A convivial atmosphere and relaxed yet chic setting provides a sure-fire way to have a classy, fun evening on the ‘tails.

  1. Belushi’s

With a cocktail menu designed for the more experimental among us, Belushi’s is a great way to sample cocktails whilst still enjoying a student-like atmosphere. With concoctions ranging from Chocolate Martinis to a trusty Gin Fizz, there is something for everyone here and you’re guaranteed to leave with a big smile on your face.
