BREAKING NEWS: Varsity 2020 Cancelled

The annual Varsity Competition between the University of Bath and Cardiff Metropolitan University, set to take place this year at the University of Bath on the 1st April 2020, has been cancelled.

The SU Bath and Cardiff Met Students’ Union issued a joint statement on the matter, which can be read below:

“Following conversations with our key sports governing bodies and in light of the widespread cancellation of sporting activity across the UK, we have taken the decision to cancel the 2020 Varsity competition between the University of Bath and Cardiff Metropolitan University (due to take part on Wednesday 1 April 2020 at the University of Bath). We are mindful of growing concerns about travel and large gatherings of people and, with more than 5,000 spectators and athletes taking part across 17 different sporting events, the wellbeing of students and staff remains our main concern. Like all of those scheduled to take part, we are disappointed to have had to make this decision, but look forward to re-convening the event in 2021 at the University of Bath. We are in close contact with the relevant bodies about our ongoing sporting schedule, and will continue to be led by the scientific and medical guidance from these and our host institutions.”
