Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra

With special guests Marc Almond and Ruby Turner

Bath Forum, Friday 26th October

As part of a 35-date tour, Jools Holland will be taking to the stage at Bath’s largest event venue: The Forum.

Jools and his 19-piece orchestra will perform a tremendous collection of his own compositions and boogie-woogie classics, delighting fans of all ages.

Jools Holland will be performing in Bath this week

Jools’s extensive career as a musician and TV host has seen him wow the crowds at Glastonbury and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert. He was awarded an OBE in 2003 and is now arguably the UK’s most popular pianist and bandleader.

The Rhythm and Blues Orchestra plays to audiences in excess of 300,000 each year. Keep an eye out for drummer Gilson Lavis, one of the original members of Jools’s 1970s band Squeeze.

The ensemble will be joined by Soft Cell frontman Marc Almond, best known for the international sensation ‘Tainted Love’, and the supremely talented vocalists Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall.

The tour will then continue on to major locations including the London Royal Albert Hall, Dublin’s 3Arena and Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena. It promises to bring many unforgettable nights and is guaranteed to raise audiences to their feet.

Tickets can be purchased on Ticketmaster, See Tickets and Ticketline.

VK Electric featuring Tom Zanetti & K.O. Kane

With special guests DJ Troopa and Tango Williams

O2 Academy Bristol, Wednesday 26th September

The explosive AND exclusive student tour VK… Into the Night is bringing one huge party to nine cities across the UK.

A VK night? Sounds good to me.

British DJ rapper, singer and record producer Tom Zanetti has spent the summer at pool parties, festivals and even the Love Island villa itself. He’s now ready to show off his new beats at Bristol’s O2 Academy.

Zanetti will be joined by hip-hop and rap artist K.O Kane, who has recently lent his talents to some tricky remixes with the likes of DJ Fresh, Sigma and Sigala. Also in Bristol’s line-up are special guests DJ Troopa (the official DJ for MIST) and international club DJ Tango Williams.

As an artist who lives by the mantra ‘sleeping is cheating’, Zanetti has had a whirlwind couple of years since the success of his hit single ‘You Want Me’ featuring Sadie Ama.

The tour will continue on to O2 Academies in Sheffield, Liverpool, Oxford and Newcastle.

Keep an eye out for the Bath Time review!

Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.

The Edge, Thursday 18th-Saturday 20th October

If you’ve ever had an interest in theatre, whether it be acting, writing, directing or getting creative behind the scenes, then come and give BUST a try. We have a busy year ahead, with a variety of shows giving many opportunities to flex your acting abilities. We also keep busy offstage by having regular socials and holding weekly workshops run by our very own members. From comedy to tragedy, BUST has been doing all things theatrical since 1969, providing endless opportunities for anyone and everyone regardless of experience.

Interested? Find BUST on the Groups section of the SU webpage and on Facebook (Bath University Student Theatre). Also, check out our first show of the year ‘Servant of Two Masters’, a hilarious Commedia dell’arte classic about Truffaldino’s efforts to serve two masters without being found out.

The Edge, Thursday 11th-Saturday 13th October:

From the group that brought you ‘In The Heights’ and ‘Made In Dagenham’ comes the tale of love and revolution in a dystopian town coping with a worldwide water shortage. Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, ‘Urinetown: The Musical’ is an hilarious musical satire of capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! A terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! ‘Les Mis’ meets “Newsies with pee” is sure to make this another smash-hit show for BUSMS! ‘

The Edge, Friday 9th-Saturday 10th October

ChaOS presents…BIG BAND IDOL

The Edge, Sunday 28th October

Welcome to ChaOS! As a society, we’re not nearly as stuffy, and rather more wide-ranging, than our name of the ‘Choral and Orchestral Society’ might suggest. If you play an instrument or sing (whether in a contemporary or classical style), then we are the society for you!

ChaOS’ first main event in the year is Big Band Idol. This is our annual competition to find a star to perform with our Big Band, which regularly plays at society balls and other external events.

Auditions will be held on Tuesday 9th October at 8W 2.9. If you would like to find out more or would like to book an audition slot, please contact us at su-chaos@bath.ac.uk. The main event will be on Sunday 28th October in the Arts Theatre, The Edge, where our finalists will perform in front of a live audience and our panel of judges, who will choose our winner. Get ready for an evening full of jazz, swing and funk classics!

Check out the ChaOS Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/BathChaOS) or The Edge Website for more show information and to purchase tickets.

Latin and Ballroom presents…STRICTLY COME BATH

BULB may technically be a sports club instead of a society, but we’re one of the more unorthodox ones! Although we are very performance oriented, the athleticism and finesse required to make it to the top, and the fact that we participate in (and often do very well in!) regular competitions make us a sport, albeit one that is marked on performance metrics, rather than number of goals scored. Our competitions range from local university friendlys to the Inter-Varsity Dancesport Competition (IVDC) at the Blackpool Winter Gardens, where we get to dance on the same stage as the Strictly pros!

Make sure to look out for our yearly sell out event: Strictly Come Bath! In this charity fundraiser, university celebrities with no L&B experience (which in previous years have included the chair of V-Team and our reigning champion, the SU’s Activities Officer to name but a few) pair up with club professionals and learn a routine to perform live in front of you, in just three weeks.

As for competitions, we actually run our own one every year: the Bath Winter Friendly Dancesport Competition will take place in Founders Hall on December 1st.! For just £3 for students and £5 for non-students, you can come and support #TeamBath in the Dancesport arena, from beginner to advanced, and see the performances of some of the very best student latin & ballroom couples in the country as they show you how incredible real Dancesport can look. You do not want to miss it!

Make sure to follow our Facebook page, University of Bath Latin and Ballroom Dance Club 2018/19 for more information and taster sessions!
