Olivier Rousteing announced the collaboration at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, arm in arm with Kendall Jenner and Jourdan Dunn. Rousteing’s collection will be hitting stores November 5th of this year. Talk about an early Christmas presents ladies AND gentlemen – yes, indeed the collection features both a male and female clothing line. The full glory of the Balmain X H&M collection has already been revealed, every piece more embellished and glorified than the next. Rousteing is adamant about creating a social media revolution through his hashtag #H&MBalmaination. The designer himself calls this “a movement of togetherness, fuelled on a hashtag.”
Collaborating with H&M is a chance for Balmain to connect to all of their fans, as H&M is a globally renowned brand. The brand will undoubtedly bring a breath of fresh air to the usually casual, relatable clothing found at H&M. Balmain surprises with its couture spirit and streetwear attitude, giving its clothing a sense of opulence.
“We are excited to have Balmain as our guest designer at H&M and to create a truly involving experience for everybody,” said Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M and architect of the annual collaborations. In teaming up with H&M, Rousteing is falling in line behind some of the industry’s biggest and best, such as Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Donatella Versace and Alexander Wang.
The launch of the collection took place on the 20th October on the infamous New Yorker Wall Street, in a former bank. Rousteing found inspiration from the city that never sleeps and turned his runaway into a subway station. Ensuring the night was every inch the pop-culture phenomenon, the Backstreet Boys concluded the show with a surprise performance of their greatest hits. The model army consistent of Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, to name but a few, danced along from the side-lines. Post-performance, guests had the opportunity to indulge in the on-site pop-up store, picking up pieces from the collection at a pace fuelled by the customized Balmain burger take-out food.
