The final week of last semester saw an exciting end to the BUCS year with many Bath clubs in action and the racquet clubs once again impressing with numerous victories seeing them continue their successful campaigns

The Men’s Tennis 1s and 2s did the double over their Bournemouth counterparts whilst the Women’s teams faced each other with the 1s beating the 2s. Meanwhile the Badminton club also secured victories with the Men’s 2s winning 8-0 away at Cardiff and the Women’s 1s matching that score at Brighton. Meanwhile, the Men’s 3s beat Bournemouth 1s 6-2 but the Women’s 3s suffered a defeat to Bristol 1s by the same margin.

There were particularly impressive performances from the Women’s 3s who beat Marjons 1s to extend their lead at the top of the table over the Devon university and the Women’s 4s who won 3-1 at local rivals Exeter 5s.

The end of 2014 brought mixed fortunes for many other Bath clubs though. The Women’s 1s and Men’s 4s football teams recorded 3-1 and 2-1 wins over Brighton and Exeter respectively, whilst the Men’s 2s drew 1-1 with Cardiff 3s. However, the Men’s 1s, Men’s 3s and Women’s 2s all suffered narrow defeats. Similarly, the Netball 1s comfortably beat UWE 61-34 and the 3s beat Southampton Solent 1s 36-20. However there was disappointment for the 2s and 4s with both teams agonisingly losing by a single point. The Rugby Men’s 3s beat Bristol 17-12 in a tight encounter and both Men’s and Women’s 1s secured victories, but the Men’s 2s and 4s both suffered heavy away defeats.

The Lacrosse club finished off the year with the Men’s 1s beating Bristol 1s 13-5 to close within a point of their opponents whilst the Women’s 1s suffered a 11-5 defeat to the same opposition as their struggles continued. The volleyball club also had one win and one defeat with the Men’s 1s easing to a 3-0 victory over the University of South Wales Pontypridd and Cardiff Mens 1s, but the Women’s 1s lost in a final set shootout to Cardiff 1s. Basketball enjoyed a more successful day with the Men’s 1s narrowly beating UCL 1s and the Men’s 2s comfortably seeing off city rivals Bath Spa 1s 73-29.

January is often a quiet month for University clubs but some Bath teams have still faced BUCS fixtures. The New Year has turned out to be tough period though with the Men’s Rugby 2s losing to Hartpury 2s and the Women’s Lacrosse 2s losing to Royal Holloway 1s in the first fixtures of 2015. The final weekend in January saw the American Football suffer a home defeat to Hertfordshire whilst the Men’s Futsal 1s could only draw 4-4 against Gloucestershire 1s.

However, the last Wednesday of the month brought more positive news for the blue and golds with the Women’s Tennis 1s securing the league title after beating Bristol 1s 12-0. The start of February continued the improvement in Bath results with the Men’s Water Polo 2s recording a pair of 9-6 victories over Aberystwyth 1s and the Men’s Futsal 1s winning 6-1 away to the University of South Wales Pontypridd and Cardiff 1s. The American Football team lost 22-3 to Birmingham, but remain the only side to have scored against the Midlanders this season.

February also sees the return of many more Bath clubs to action with Wednesday’s now once again full of sporting action.
